The Pit of Joseph (Domestic Violance), 2022
Date
2022
Pit-fired ceramics
34x52x43 cm
Executed in 2022, this wheel-thrown ceramic sculpture functions as a visceral, prophetic monument to structural collapse and intimate violence. Created in the wake of profound familial betrayal, the artist explores the physical limits of the vessel as a surrogate for the wounded body. The architecture of the work centers on a deep, hollow cylinder that is violently breached and impaled by a rugged, tubular element cutting horizontally through its core. The jagged, asymmetrical rim and scorched charcoal-gray surface—achieved through intense pit-firing—evoke the soot and structural devastation of an impact site. Subverting the traditional function of the container as a site of safety, The Prophetic Violation bridges private trauma with shared history, transforming an artifact of domestic agony into a harrowing national omen of abandonment
